The Content Of The Article:

Whether for garden design, as a remedy against weeds or for soil protection: bark mulch must not be missing in any garden. We explain how to apply it correctly.

Bark mulch offers many advantages

Bark mulch is made from crushed tree bark. And exactly this offers many advantages. Once you have spread the bark mulch in the flowerbed as the top layer of soil, it regulates even the bottom temperature. In summer, the bark mulch in the soil underneath keeps the soil moisture much better, even in times of high heat. And even in winter, the mulch makes a lot, because then he protects the soil from dehydration and frost.

At the same time, bark mulch minimizes the growth of weeds, which in turn significantly reduces workload. Furthermore, it is proven that in the bark mulch very much like microorganisms settle. This has the advantage of improving the soil structure and increasing soil fertility. In summary, Rindenmulch offers these advantages:

  • Weed growth is minimized
  • Soil quality is improved,
  • Soil moisture lasts longer,
  • Soil protection through temperature regulation,
  • decent bedding / gardening options

How to properly remove bark mulch

First of all, no matter where you lay out the bark mulch or how you use the mulch: before spreading, you should always clear all beds and paths from weeds.

Apply bark mulch in flowerbed or under shrubs / hedges / trees:

In principle, you should spread the bark mulch in flower beds and under bushes, hedges or trees no higher than in a layer of 5 centimeters. By using a rake or a small hand rake, you can easily distribute the mulch.

Important:

The application of bark mulch is less suitable if you have planted your garden beds with ground cover and if it is bedding plants that have a particularly high lime requirement.

It is also important that you occasionally fertilize under the bark mulch. This often extracts valuable nitrogen from the soil. It is therefore advisable to feed the soil with nitrogen fertilizer even before spreading the bark mulch.

Create garden path from Rindenmulch:

The situation is different if you want to create a particularly soft, natural-looking garden path with the bark mulch. Then you have to deploy a layer of at least 10 centimeters. In addition, you should on the garden path then preferably lay out garden fleece.
