Energy bars are usually quite expensive. They are so easy to make yourself. How about with Chia energy bar?
It has been one of the most important foods in South America for thousands of years and to this day provides energy and endurance to many Andean inhabitants - meaning the chia plant. The seeds of this plant are full of nutrients, vitamins and fiber and were already used by the Maya to provide messengers and spies with their long marches for days and weeks with energy.
Today, chia seeds serve those who like to eat healthily and, for example, want to strengthen their stamina and energy reserves while exercising, without having to resort to industrial bars or protein sources. You do not have to buy Chia energy bars, though. You can easily make the healthy alternative to the sweet granola bar, which often provides more sugar than nutrients anyway.
Make energy bar with chia seeds yourself
Chia energy bars can be put together according to your taste. So you always have a healthy snack at hand during sports or during lunch break.
➤ Ingredients (for one sheet):
- 1 l of milk or soy milk or other milk substitute
- 250 g rice pudding
- 250 g of dried fruit such as raisins, dates, apricots, cranberries
- 1 tablespoon sugar, honey or agave syrup
- 3 tablespoons chia seeds
- Cinnamon or cocoa at will
First of all you have to boil the milk with a pinch of salt. Then stir in the rice pudding and cook under constant stirring. Then add sugar or honey or agave syrup and add some cinnamon or cocoa and stir. Finally, add the fruit and the chia seeds (cut larger fruits such as dates and apricots beforehand) and mix well.
Place the baking paper on a baking tray and then spread the mass on it. Then add sunflower seeds, sesame seeds or chia seeds and bake in a preheated oven at 150° C for approx. 30 minutes.
Then cool the mixture and cut into pieces. Then wrap the bars in aluminum foil. You can now keep them in the refrigerator or even freeze them. In the fridge, the energy bars hold only two to three days.
