Enjoy fresh coriander all year round? This works out. For this you only have to freeze the cilantro. So you can season with fresh cilantro up to 6 months later.As with many fresh herbs, it also happens with coriander that you have bought too much or harvested in the garden and then faces the problem: What do I do with it? Not always you can process or consume a large amount of fresh cilantro immediately. So it makes sense to preserve the herb.
A very simple and easy way is that of freezing. If you do it right, you always have some fresh coriander leaves at hand.
Freezing coriander - 2 options presented
You can freeze coriander both as a larger bundle in a freezer bag and in portions in ice cube form. Which variant you use depends entirely on whether you want to use more or less leaves.

1 Wash the fresh branches and then dry them. Kitchen crepe is best suited for this purpose. Just place the coriander between two layers of paper and dab gently.
2 Then cut the leaves into handy pieces, either with a knife or kitchen scissors. Lay these sliced leaves on a baking tray with baking paper in such a way that they do not lie on top of each other. Otherwise, the leaves freeze to a lump together.
3 Place the baking tray in the freezer for approx. 20 - 30 minutes. The leaves freeze and can then better be transferred to the freezer bag.
4 After freezing, place the leaves with 50 ml of water in a freezer bag and label them with the date, quantity and contents.
With the right approach, the coriander can easily stay in the freezer for up to 6 months.

If you want to freeze coriander in handy portion sizes, you can work with an ice cube container.
1 For this, the coriander must be washed for the time being. Then the dripping reaches in a sieve.
2 Then simply cut the leaves into fine strips. These strips are then already in an ice cube container, about 15 - 20g per tray.
3 Fill the individual compartments with water to the brim, preferably with a small ladle or a sauce ladle, and then place this mixture in the freezer compartment.
So you have convenient portion sizes for fresh cilantro and if necessary you can simply put the cubes in a sauce or soup. So the coriander does not even thaw before.
