On June 21, the Beutig in Baden-Baden again became the meeting point of the rose scene. Already for the 64th time the "International Rose Innovation Competition" took place there. Over 120 experts from all over the world came to take a closer look at the latest varieties of roses. A total of 36 breeders from 14 countries submitted 135 new products that needed to be evaluated. This year, the wet weather presented the urban gardeners with special challenges. The team of the garden office did a great job, so that the newly planted roses could present themselves from their best side.

New breeds from six rose classes had to undergo the strict eyes of the rose inspectors. In addition to the overall impression, the novelty value and the flowering, criteria such as disease resistance and scent also played an important role. Most of the points this year received the Edelrose 'Märchenzauber' of the breeder W. Kordes' sons. Thus, this variety not only won the gold medal in the category "Edelrosen", but also the honorary award "Golden Rose of Baden-Baden 2016", the most important award of the competition. The pink new breed convinced the jury members with their nostalgic flowers, the beguiling scent and the rich green, extremely healthy foliage.
