The new garden furniture generation is even more comfortable and invites you to relax. The garden trends 2009 (9)
Feel-good furniture in XXL: The theme "home garden" with comfortable patio furniture has been up-to-date for a long time. New are furniture with huge dimensions. For example, I discovered these weatherproof beanbags at a garden trade fair. TIP: Match the style of the patio furniture to the living room furniture so that everything becomes a harmonious unit.
Plants as a balm for eyes, soul and spirit: To slow down life is a wish expressed many times. In modern gardens you will find the right design ideas. For example, the gardens at last year's Chelsea Flower Show showed lots of green. Here one saw many Blattschmuckstauden and cut trees and shrubs. TIP: Create a green garden corner at home - for example with funkies, purple bells and only a few white or pink flowering pops.
The pure desire for Lila: The trend color Lila will not be missed this year. It not only conquers the closets of my colleagues - it is also up to date in the garden. Great that there are so many purple flowering perennials, bulb flowers and summer flowers. These include, for example, catnip, steppe sage, lavender, garlic and cranesbill. Also at last year's Landesgartenschau in Bad Rappenau you could discover a lot of violet in the flower beds (see photo). TIP: I like to combine violet flowers with gray-powdered plants like woolly-Ziest or Edeldistel.
Bathing fun for the whole family: A swimming pool on the doorstep - would not that be nice? Unfortunately, there is no water oasis in my garden. But a swimming pond would make this dream come true quickly, without any chemicals. Initially described as extravagant gardening pleasure, the various swimming pool systems are slowly but surely developing into bestsellers in the gardening industry. This is not least because building techniques are getting better and better. Swimming pool variants with real pool optics are currently in demand: a large swimming area, a small filter zone with plants, great lighting effects and the right terrace are a must. TIP: Even heat pumps and countercurrent systems can be installed in swimming ponds.
Use roof areas: Gardening fans are particularly concerned about protecting the environment. Logically, that opportunities for saving energy in your own garden are often in demand in our editors. With solar collectors and greening systems, which act as additional insulation against heat loss, roofs can be used well. TIP: Depending on the project, there are even government grants for the green roof.
Trend material wood: The modern look and many different design options make wood more and more popular as a floor covering. This is reflected not only in garden shows and fairs, also in new housing areas you can see many wooden seats. In order for the enjoyment of the new terrace to last, the professional installation and a good quality of wood are immensely important. The planks should be sufficiently thick and well deposited. A minimum thickness of 25 mm is recommended. The wood moisture should be measured: Values over 15% can lead to building damage! TIP: Do not choose tropical wood, but European wood species such as larch, beech, oak or robinia. Through a special heat treatment, these woods are very durable without the addition of chemicals. In the specialized trade one finds them under designations such as Thermowood or Thermoholz.
New design ideas: At the moment, plants are also very popular with interior designers. The green wallpaper of a photo studio, for example, turns out to be a living flower wall (photo) by the Danish flower stylist Anette Østergaard. TIP: Similar green walls with climbing philodendron are commercially available. If you want to do it easier, fill a shelf with echeveria, anthuriums or orchids. Of course, sufficient light is vital for shelf plants too!
Modern water staged: I have seen water basins with geometric shapes, wide gullies or modern wall fountains on many garden displays. The new tint trend is towards modern forms and economical planting. No matter how big your garden is, there is always a place for such water elements. Those who want to make it quite trendy, choose a construction variant in which the water surface and the surface of the environment are at the same height. Thus, the noble pelvis seem borderless. As a surface for the environment, wood or large stone slabs are best. TIP: Wide gullies (see photo) look classy and give the garden a modern touch. A mix of stainless steel and Plexiglas material is great.
The new compact class of the flower world: Most plant breeders in the past placed great value on the abundance of flowers of their new varieties. Now the growth comes to the fore. The trend is new, compact growing varieties that do not break and fit well in smaller pots. TIP: My absolute favorites are bushy growing lanterns in yellow (photo), red, orange or creamy white.
Green Trends: What was and what is to comeIn addition to the annual news, there are large, overarching garden trends that have shaped the past decades: In the 50s of the last century was still the vegetable garden for growing vegetables the main theme in private gardens. Already in the 60s The ornamental garden came into fashion. Hollywood swings, Concrete slabs as well as flowers and roses in yellow, red and orange found their way into German gardens. In the 70 were evergreen Conifers in all possible - and impossible - forms announced.
Eco-Gardens with a slightly wild character characterize the land in the 80s. In the 90 Years ago Garden ponds and perennial beds more popular - and the vegetable garden experienced with the opening of the German border a small renaissance. The new millennium brought the topic Wellness in our gardens: Living, relaxing and feeling good was and is in fashion in the garden world. But that too The End the wellness era is sight. At least the renowned one believes that Trend researcher Matthias Horx.
Horx prophesies that people no longer just want to sit back and enjoy. It rather develops the need to change oneself. This trend is called "Selfness". Derived from the English word "self", which means "self". The trend researcher sees the garden as an ideal place, especially to realize yourself and to find oneself
It's nice to hear that the creative use of plants again becomes a trend topic and that we gardeners are true trendsetters.
