In larger gardens, a romantic bridge can easily be integrated. How to build a garden bridge can be found here.
Components for garden bridges
The design can be done with or without a stream or even go over a garden pond. On top of that, the gardener decides to create a Japanese ornamental garden, a matching garden bridge is unavoidable. In the retail trade, numerous components for garden bridges are now available, in different colors and predominantly of wood, preferably of oak or larch. But also metal bridges such. brushed metal, antique patinated or shiny stainless steel are becoming more and more popular. But many also opt for a stone bridge.
Build garden bridges yourself
Due to the really favorable offers, it hardly pays to make a garden bridge yourself. Unless you, as a hobby gardener or do-it-yourselfers, attach great importance to the construction of an individual bridge in your garden. In doing so, however, you should include a statics calculated for the bridge, especially for larger bridges.
Small bridge without railing
The small bridge without railing is made of two massive cheek parts with multiple cross braces (depending on the length) and then planked with solid wood planks or stainless steel plates, etc. Such a bridge is placed primarily over shallow garden ponds or low creeks. Or she decorates a very specific garden section, for which she can be filled on the underside, for example, with ornamental gravel.
Big bridge with railing
Large garden bridges are built in the same way as the small bridges. However, the sides are still stabilized by one or two handrail railings. So the big bridges in the garden can also be built over a real stream or over a deep garden pond. For the attachment of large bridges serves either a broad bearing surface on the banks or else ground anchors are embedded in the soil - similar to the normal pile setting.
Tip: If you also have small children in your garden, you should protect the bridge railing accordingly - eg. by a narrow bar sequence in the railing course, so that no children's head can be pushed through.
When installing all bridges, it is always important to carefully consider the construction manual of the respective manufacturer. Furthermore, you should always embed the associated, stabilizing piles in the ground, which guarantees a longer shelf life - ideally you should place the wooden beams on steel posts. So you do not have to worry that the wood rots in the ground. The planking of the running area should be done with stainless steel screws, because the bridge is directly exposed to the different weather conditions all year round. Moreover, a wooden bridge is also better protected by a corresponding glaze.
Tip: You should renew the laser strokes on the bridges at the latest every two years - you will have to lightly sand down the old paint, remove peeling paint thoroughly and then apply the new coat twice.
