Cleaning garden gnomes - That's how it's done

The Content Of The Article:

As in the house, the decoration in the garden must be cleaned from time to time. Here is a post about how you can clean garden gnomes.

Garden gnomes do not like everyone

Garden gnomes have certainly gained cult status in our gardens over the last few years. Even if they are not for everyone, they please us with their lovely sight in the neighboring garden. Incidentally, the garden gnome is purely a German invention and was first offered to the public at a Leipzig trade fair more than a hundred years ago.

There are different garden gnomes

Of course, the little fellows have to be cleaned on a regular basis to give their owners a long-lasting pleasure. A distinction must be made in the care, whether it is a traditionally made terracotta garden gnome, or a much cheaper and unbreakable plastic garden gnome. Rarely also gypsum-made garden gnomes are offered in the specialized trade, of which however is not recommended, since they are not weatherproof and break quickly.

Furthermore, you must note that garden gnomes are usually not winterized and must be brought into a frost-free room each year in late autumn. And this is the perfect time to do a thorough cleaning of each dwarf. Otherwise, you should do a cleaning before setting up the garden gnomes.

Clean garden gnomes properly

┬╗Clean glazed terracotta dwarf:

Garden gnomes made of baked clay require a higher care effort. Nevertheless, they usually look more natural, even if they were artistically painted (usually made by hand).

Ideal for cleaning are glazed clay gnomes, all of which have a fired clay glaze. For cleaning, you should provide a bucket of water containing a little bit of conventional detergent. With this lye and a sponge you can then free the dwarves from dirt and verdigris. Finally rinse with water again and let the dwarfs dry in the air.

┬╗Clean natural terracotta dwarfs:

The natural terracotta dwarfs should, however, soak for several hours. To do this, prepare a bucket filled with water. Add a dash of vinegar essence and a little bit of citric acid. After soaking, brush the dwarfs clean with a fine brush and then place in the sun to dry.

Meanwhile, special terracotta impregnations (such as Amazon) are offered. The little dwarves should treat you with such an impregnation best in the spring after a thorough cleansing.

┬╗Clean plastic dwarf:

Certainly, the plastic dwarf is far easier to care for, especially as the slippery surface rarely starts to sprout and, depending on the processing, even cleaning in a conventional dishwasher is possible.

Less well processed plastic dwarfs, so-called cheap products, can be soaked in a water soapy water, washed with a soft cloth and then shower with a watering can. Finally, let all dwarfs dry in the air or dry with a cotton cloth.
