Our harvest calendar for the month of April shows you at a glance which fruits and vegetables are currently in season. Because for most a seasonal diet is synonymous with the purchase of products from regional cultivation, we have been limited in the selection of fruits and vegetables from Germany. So you can eat in April especially environmentally aware and climate conscious.

In the field, vegetable and fruit plants are cultivated, which cope well with the local weather conditions and where, due to the high demand, cultivation on site with short transport routes is economically worthwhile. In this form of crop cultivation, the climate is the least burdened because no energy for heating or lighting of the plants must be spent. Accordingly, the proportion of outdoor food in winter is also much lower than in summer. Already in April are on the harvest calendar:

However, if you want to forego the environment for long transport routes and storage methods with high energy consumption, resort to seasonal goods. This has been grown in local fields and does not have to travel long distances to the consumer. Stock items from regional cultivation are available in April:

From the heated greenhouse, there are only cucumbers and tomatoes available in Germany this month. Both plants need some time to develop delicious fruits outdoors.
