Young corn salad

Many hobby gardeners prefer to prefer plants in the house before they are later transferred to the garden. Even with salad, as well as the lamb's lettuce, this is possible. This has the advantage that you can start much later with the cultivation of lettuce. In addition, there is also an advantage over weeds, which always grow with in the bed.

You may prefer the lamb's lettuce either indoors or in the greenhouse. If you can completely cover the cold frame, then a pre-culture is also possible. But the easiest way to do this is on the windowsill. And how exactly that works, we would like to explain to you below.

You need this:

  • Lettuce seeds
  • growing pots
  • potting soil

Tip:

Alternatively to the potting soil from the trade, you can also produce your own plant substrate. All you need to do is mix sieved compost with normal garden soil and some sand.

Instructions for breeding lamb's lettuce

➤ Step 1:

First of all you have to fill the pots with the substrate. Since not every seed will give birth to a plant, you should then put three to five seeds in each pot. It should not be more than five seeds, otherwise the salad germinates too thick.

You just have to lay the seeds on the ground and then push them into the substrate with your fingers. But not too deep!

➤ Step 2:

The germination time is now between 10 and 14 days. During this time you must make sure that the earth is always evenly moist.

➤ Step 3:

After about four weeks, the seedlings are ready for the move to the outdoors. Until then, the first two pairs of leaves should be formed in any case. However, they are allowed to put the young plants in the garden only after the frost phase, ie after the icy saints. Just take the seedlings out of the pot and plant them in the bed.

Important:

When planting, make sure that you keep a distance of about 20 centimeters between the individual plants and a row distance of about 40 centimeters.
