Leaves, Spathiphyllum wallisii - care instructions

The Content Of The Article:

The single leaf, with Latin name as Spathiphyllum referred to, comes from the family of arum family. The Latin name is composed of the two Greek words spathe and phyllon, which are translated into German flower sheath and leaf. The name is due to the flower shape. In German, the name Blattfahne is often used.
The plant originally came from Venezuela and Colombia, but today is often used as a decorative houseplant. The leaves are oblong oval shaped and long-stalked. The leaves reach a length of 25 cm and sit on up to 30 cm long petioles. They have a dark green color and are shiny.
Due to the delicacy of the leaves, the leaf requires a lot of water. The single leaf reaches a height of about 30 cmn, but there are different shapes to buy today. One distinguishes between mini, midi and maxi forms. Accordingly, the stature height of the plant is different.
Particularly striking is the flower, which appears twice a year. As a rule, the leaves bloom in spring and autumn. The flower itself consists of a single bract, which is colored white. This white bract is also called Spatha, it surrounds a yellowish flower. The flower reaches a size of about 15 cm and protrudes on long stems, which reach a length of 50 centimeters, out of the foliage.
As a houseplant, the single leaf is quite easy to maintain. It likes moist air, but also tolerates slightly drier air. Even a shady spot does not harm the leaf, but it prefers light to partially shaded spots without direct sunlight. Temperatures below 16 degrees, even in winter, should be avoided, temperatures between 18 and 25° C are ideal.
The ideal location is half shady to shady (east, west, or north window, or at some distance to the south window). Direct sun is not tolerated and should therefore be avoided. Fertilization is from spring to autumn every 2-3 weeks, depending on the size of the plant. At an optimum location, there is no period of rest, in this case in winter about every 6 weeks give some fertilizer. It is fertilized with a commercially available green or flowering plant fertilizer. Spathiphyllum wallisii loves heat. Therefore, the temperatures in the summer should be around 18-25° C, in winter at least 16 degrees Celsius.
Also in hydroponics, the leaf thrives excellently. The plant has a high water requirement, so the soil should be kept evenly moist. In the winter is the rest of the Einblatts and therefore you should pour in this time a little less. It is recommended to use tempered and low-calcium water for pouring.
The leaves of the plant should be sprayed at regular intervals. Occasional fertilization promotes growth, but you should not fertilize too much, otherwise brown leaf tips on the plant will be noticeable. Fertilization takes place during flowering. With proper care, plant protection is hardly necessary.
Basically, the plant pot should not be too large. Should it be necessary to transplant the plant, the months of February and March are recommended. At this time, the single sheet can be synonymous without problems. Propagation is done simply by dividing during transplanting. For this purpose, the roots of the Einblatts are exposed and severed with a sharp knife. It is recommended to cut pieces, each having two to three leaves. These sections are planted and placed in a shady location at temperatures around 20° C. In just a few weeks new roots will develop.
It is also possible to grow seeds in a warm bed. Waterlogging can cause root rot. Occasionally, the leaf is also visited by aphids, a corresponding treatment of the plant is necessary.
As an ingredient you will find in the monolayer Scharfstoffe, such as Arum. If these toxins get on the skin, it can cause irritation. Most of these irritations are in the form of inflammation and burning. Also with the internal admission these symptoms are to be determined. Here, the irritation mainly affects the mucous membranes and causes swelling. In addition, it can cause stomach and intestinal complaints that accompany cramps.
The monolayer is toxic to many different animals. These include dogs, cats, but also rodents, such as rabbits, hares, hamsters and guinea pigs. The single leaf also has a poisonous effect on birds. The symptoms of intoxication are manifested by vomiting, heavy salivation, dysphagia and diarrhea.
Maintenance error
The single leaf is probably the most popular houseplant, in addition to various ficus and dragon tree species at all. She is extremely grateful, and absolutely not grudging.Nursing mistakes are usually put away easily, even a temporary dryness is not punished too hard by her. This easy-care plant comes from Colombia and belongs to the family of the Aaronstabgewächse. The leaves are medium green and narrow. The flowers rise from the leaf mass and have a white bract. Although the flowers live only for a few days, the bracts remain over several weeks. With good care, the plant blooms almost uninterrupted.
The water requirement is in the normal range, moderate in the summer, tend to pour less in the winter, while at the same time value should be placed on high humidity. Waterlogging should be avoided at all costs. The single leaf is not only suitable for the room culture, but also for hydroponics.
Propagation works smoothly in this plant by seed, or by division of the stick in spring when repotting. Seed multiplication should take place at a soil temperature around 20-25° C. Actually, the plant is not prone to diseases and pests. However, laryngeal attack can occasionally occur. At low infestation you can collect the animals by hand.
