Make plant tonic yourself

Sometimes plants need a bit of support to grow. Most then immediately resort to plant tonic from the trade back. Often, however, it contains a lot of chemistry. But who wants to have that in his garden? And why buy at all? After all, you can also make your own plant tonic from different plants. The preparation is often easier than expected. Besides, you do not have to pay much attention to it.

Particularly effective are e.g. Nettle and a broth of field horsetail. These agents are not only rich in minerals, they also promote growth and expel e.g. Fungal diseases, spider mites and aphids.

How to make nettle jumbo yourself

If you want to make nettle jellies yourself, then all you need is a closable plastic container, water and 30 full-grown fresh nettles.

➜ And this is how it's done:

Pour the fresh stinging nettles with 1 liter of boiling water. Then fill the plastic container with 4 liters of water and add the nettle-water mixture. Now close the container and place it in a sunny place. This accelerates the fermentation, which occurs after a few days. Now you do not have to do anything else how to stir the mixture once a day.

During fermentation, bubbles form in the plastic container. If they do not reappear, the fermentation process is complete. That should be the case after about 3 weeks. Leave the mixture for another week. Then you can use it to fertilize plants, the lawn and the soil or to fight pests.

Tip:
If you want to fertilize plants, then a mixing ratio of 1:20 with water is advisable. On the other hand, if you want to fertilize the lawn or soil, set it to a mixing ratio of 1:50. To combat pests, a ratio of 1: 1 is advisable.

How to make a broth from field horsetail

Producing a broth does not take as long as producing manure. All you need is a bucket, a saucepan, 1 kilogram of fresh or 150 grams of dried horsetail and water.

➜ And this is how it's done:

Cut the horsetail and submerge it in 10 liters of water for 24 hours. If you need less broth you can also soak 100 grams of horsetail in 1 liter of water. After the 24 hours, boil for 30 minutes on a low heat. Then allow to cool and strain through a sieve.

If you would like to use the broth, you should always mix it with water in a ratio of 1: 5. Then you can put them in a spray bottle and spray the plants or pour the broth directly into the root area.

Tip:
You can also make a manure from field horsetail. It is made in the same way as stinging nettle. How to cultivate field horsetail in the garden, learn here.
