Poplar wood - prices, buy, features - Wood of poplar

The poplars belong to the willow family, the Latin name of which is Salicaceae, where they are a genus of plants. The Latin name of the poplars is Populus.

The poplars originate in Japan, Central and North Asia and North America, and are usually plants in the shape of a tree.
The flowering of the poplars is in March and April, with the small kittens can be seen. Depending on the poplar species, they can grow between 15 and 50 meters. The poplars can live between 100 and 200 years. In our regions mainly the gray poplar (Populus canescens (Ait.) Smith), the aspen (Aspen, Aspe) (Populus tremula L.) and the silver poplar (Populus alba L.) are native.
The black poplar (Populus nigra L.) will not be found in our latitudes. All natural crosses between the Aspenwood and the Silver Poplar are grouped under the Gray Poplar.
Properties of poplar wood
In the wood of each species of poplar is quite a similarity to see that hardly differ in the different species, here play more of the external environmental conditions a crucial role.
The wood is mostly whitish or white-gray to a brownish hue. In the case of the silver poplar, the heartwood has a reddish yellow to a yellow-brown tone.
With light brown but often also a greenish shimmer, the heartwood of the black poplar can be seen. In the core of the Aspen tree, however, no coloration can be seen.
The poplar wood has a very high content of cellulose. At a 15% moisture content, the gross density is 0.45 grams on average to the cubic centimeter.
The raw density values for poplar wood are thus between 0.41 and 0.60 grams per cubic centimeter. The wood of the Aspen tree is about 0.49 grams on the cubic centimeter.
The poplar wood is scattered porous, such as the alder, birch, willow, linden and European beech. In earlywood, the vessels are about the same size as in the latewood. Essentially, the rays are made up of cells of equal size. Oil, protein and starch are stored in the wood tissue.
The heartwood is formed in many poplar species only from the fifth year. In the bark, the cork cells are extremely thin-walled. In young poplars you will find a very smooth bark, which is provided with a continuous cover fabric. Only over the years, the bark changes and it is often rough and has deep furrows.
The most popular location of the poplars are rivers, where they form part of the so-called riparian forests. There are approximately 80 million hectares of natural poplar in the world, of which 17.7 million are in the US, 21.9 million in Russia and 28.3 million in Canada.
Prices for poplar wood
Depending on the type of use, the prices are based on poplar wood, a major use is as blind wood for veneers. But poplar wood can also be used as construction wood if it only has to withstand moderate stress.
It is also used in aircraft and interior design, for matches, packaging and even in the production of prostheses and wooden shoes.
