Corn poppy thrives best in a sunny spot in the garden. The plant needs a lot of light to thrive. When choosing your location, keep in mind that leaves will die after flowering. They should therefore never set the poppy solitary, but always plant in conjunction with other tall perennials to hide the gaps. Poppies, lupins, goldenrod, daisies, cornflowers and larkspur, are especially beautiful because they contrast nicely with the bright red flowers of the poppy.

Poppies are very easy to care for plants. In principle, you do not really have to do anything. The flowers bloom magnificently without your intervention. However, if you want them to thrive, pour them regularly. You do not have to fertilize them.

What you should do, however, is to remove the faded parts of the plant regularly. That looks just nicer. When the flowering time is over, you can completely remove the plants from the earth. Do not do that, the poppy will multiply by itself. Certainly not where you want it. Therefore, rather remove the withered plants and multiply the poppy in the garden.

If you want to make more of your poppy, you can easily multiply it. In late autumn or even in winter, set the roots of the poppy free and cut off several side shoots. These should be about 8 inches long and then put in pots or potting soil in the house or conservatory. Then make sure that the roots are flush with the surface of the earth. After only a few weeks, the first shoots form, which you can put into the garden in spring.
