You always wanted to grow some spinach, but do not know how to do it or what you have to pay attention to? No problem, because we'll tell you how to do it.
Spinach is a really grateful vegetable when it comes to growing. It grows very fast and can be harvested up to four or five times. I do not even have to mention that children love him especially. ?
Depending on the variety, healthy spinach is one of the annual to maximum two-year-old vegetables and can usually be planted quite easily in our latitudes. Nowadays more than 40 different types of spinach are already available in the garden trade. We would like to introduce some of these spinach varieties to you here.

To grow spinach - That's how it's done
As a rule, the vitamin-rich and iron-rich spinach is sown twice a year directly in the field, in a nutrient-rich soil (enriched in advance with compost) in a sunny to partially shaded location in rows:
- Early spinach: sow from March to May - harvest from April to early July
- Late spinach: sow from August to September - harvest in October
The seeds should always be about 1 to 3 centimeters deep and if possible sow in the soil individually, cover them loosely again and not get stuck. A row spacing of at least 15 centimeters is recommended.
In the first few weeks you should cover the spinach (until the seedlings are relatively robust) with a thin garden foil, because it is optimally protected.
Leaf spinach can also be easily grown in the flower box on the balcony. However, if possible, you should provide it with a little full fertilizer during growth.
Casting / fertilizing:
You must make sure that the soil around the spinach is always moderately moist - but never wet! On the other hand, you can completely dispense with fertilizer during growth.
Fight pests / diseases:
Snails like to work on the green spinach leaves, which is why it is advisable to spread snails or to set up biological snail traps around the spinach.
Build spinach in the greenhouse, then it can be affected by mildew with bad ventilation. However, you can get this problem under control quickly with a good aerosol over several days.
After about 8 weeks the spinach is ready to be harvested for the first time. Now cut the leaves regularly just above the ground, then you can even harvest several times spinach. When harvesting, you should however make sure that the spinach hearts stop. Only then can you harvest the spinach up to four times. Once the spinach is in bloom, you should not reap it.
If possible, you should process the freshly harvested spinach within two to three days. You can also store it in the freezer for up to 6 months. Blanch the spinach in advance and freeze to cool.
