Every summer the same thing: the kids are eager to finally be able to use the pool in the garden again. The parents have little desire for the work that goes along with the resumption of the pool operation.
It is not so bad at all, the water does not always have to be changed completely, and even the complete cleaning is quite fast, if you proceed as planned:
Cleaning without emptyingNot always the start of the new season has to start with a complete change of water in the pool. What used to be a matter of course is carefully weighed today, because the prices for water and waste water make such a consideration worthwhile or necessary.
It is usually enough if you simply continue in the spring where you left off in the fall. If you have taken good care of your pool during the season, you have renewed some of the water after each backwash of the filter, even with the filling of evaporated water fresh water was supplied. If you refill the water in the spring, which has to be filled to compensate for the autumn fall, new water will be added to the pool.
Then a careful water treatment in the spring, normally by sucking the soil, also chlorine content and pH should be set exactly. Other desired additives such as an algae killer are now also added again, in normal dosage according to the manufacturer.
Depending on the amount of fresh water in the pool last year and depending on the type of chlorine, cyanuric acid levels may need to be monitored closely. Then the shock chlorination would have to be carried out in the spring with a low cyanuric agent. If you now add a chlorine tablet to the skimmer and let the pump run continuously between 24 and 48 hours, the water should be ready for use again. The best chlorine value for the pool is between 0.3 and 0.6 mg per liter, the pH of the water should be between 7.0 and 7.4.
Every few years complete cleaningIf it's your turn to clean your pool and refill it this year, there are some things to keep in mind:
Is the groundwater or rainwater level very high? Probably higher than the pelvic floor? Then the pipes could be damaged during emptying, a plastic basin or the film could also inflate.
For this reason, you should constantly check the emptying of the pool, a too high groundwater level, you can then recognize that the pelvic floor bulges. In this case you should immediately stop emptying and refill with water until the soil is sufficiently contaminated again.
Because tensions may arise, you should never empty the pool if there is still a closed ice cover on the surface or if the floor near the pool is not completely thawed.
Even without these circumstances, however, the floor may bulge once when the pool is empty. This is simply due to the temperature difference and is no reason to worry. If you refill the basin, the plastic will re-attach to the bottom plate.
You make the emptying on the floor drain before, usually there is a position on the multi-way valve of the filter boiler, which is called "sewer" or similar.
If the water level falls, you can already begin to apply an acid detergent with a soft bristle brush, which will now dissolve lime and all metal deposits. After this cleaning cycle, you can treat leaf stains and rust stains on the floor again separately, if these stains are very tight, you should let the detergent soak overnight.
If there are black edges in the basin, they can usually best be removed with an alkaline cleaner.
If present, the roller shutter shaft will also be emptied and cleaned. If you place yourself in the basin, you can remove all impurities from there and clean the first half of the shaft. Only then should you remove the manhole cover and fold down the hold-down tube in order to clean the second half. Thereafter, the shaft should be filled immediately with fresh water, then the lid is placed again. Incidentally, the roller shutter should not be exposed to intense sunlight without contact with the cooling water.
Then the pool is filled again with fresh water, before startup you should still make sure that all covers and drain screws are closed, then you can remove the plugs in the filling nozzles and open all lines.
If you have connected a sand filter system, it should be put into operation with a flushing process. Only then is it switched to the filter status, the pH value is controlled and adjusted to 7.2 and the chlorine content is regulated.
