Vegetable garden with flowery border

The Content Of The Article:

To the rear, two trellis trees border the bed. The two apple varieties promise long-lasting enjoyment: The summer apple 'James Grieve' is edible from the harvest in August. 'Pilot' is harvested as a winter apple only in October and can be stored excellent. Two racks made of hazel rods mark the beds. On them fire beans with attractive red flowers wind up. The other vegetables are arranged in the semicircle around it.

Vegetables combined with flowers

The picking lettuce 'Lollo Rosso' - alternately planted with the green variety - sets accents in the bed. The mangold 'Bright Lights' also provides color with its colorful stems. Zucchini left and Kohlrabi right form the outer ring of the bed. Delphinium, bishop's cabbage and zinnias frame the vegetables. Their flowers look wonderful both in the garden and in the flower vase. While the larkspur comes back as a perennial every year, zinnias and bishop's cabbage have to be sown in between. The nasturtium is also a one-year pleasure. Their spicy flowers taste in the salad and are ideal for garnishing. The orange variety 'Whirlybird Tangerine' grows creeping and covers the ground before the summer flowers.

FAQ - 💬

❓ Should I plant flowers around my vegetable garden?

👉 Companion planting flowers and vegetables in the same beds is a strategy professional growers use to boost yields and keep crops healthy, and it's easy and beneficial for beginners to do, too.

❓ What flowers pair well with vegetables?

👉 Marigolds with tomatoes, peppers, or squash: Tuck the flowers at the base of the veggie plants. Borage with strawberries: Place the borage at the corners of the bed and strawberries in the middle. Sage or lavender with cabbage, broccoli, or cauliflower: Put the flowers in front of the larger brassica plants in the bed.

❓ What is the best layout for a vegetable garden?

👉 Crowded plants have to compete for nutrients, sunlight, and water, so they're not able to grow as big and strong as they otherwise would. As a general rule, put tall veggies toward the back of the bed, mid-sized ones in the middle, and smaller plants in the front or as a border.

❓ What vegetables have perfect flowers?

👉 Tomatoes, peppers, beans, and eggplants have flowers that are referred to as “perfect,” meaning both male and female parts are combined in one blossom. These flowers usually pollinate themselves effectively, provided that they are jostled by wind or visited by active insects.

❓ What should you not plant next to each other in a vegetable garden?

👉 Beans and onions: Onions can inhibit the growth of beans. Brassicas and nightshades: Brassicas, such as broccoli and cabbage, can stunt the growth of nightshades, such as tomatoes and peppers. Fennel and most other plants: Fennel can produce allelopathic chemicals that can inhibit the growth of most other plants.

❓ Can you veg and flower in the same room?

👉 Can you veg and flower in the same room? You can veg and flower plants in the same room, although we don't recommend the practice for commercial facilities. Here are a few reasons why: Veg plants are significantly smaller than flowering plants.
