Despite meticulous care, weeds are often still spreading between flagstones. Our tips let this disappear quickly.
Grass and moss or weeds in general can hardly be avoided between stone slabs. In itself, that's not too bad, but just on garden paths or the terrace, the visually very disturbing effect. Thankfully, there are several ways to effectively remove grass and weeds between stone slabs.
So weeds disappear between stone slabs
Tip 1 - Use joint scraper:
If the area on which the flagstones are located should not be too large, it is advisable to remove the weeds between the joints as much as possible by hand. You should either use an old knife or a special weed cutter or joint scraper. It is important that you catch the plants together with the root so that they do not reappear so quickly.
Tip 2 - Use high pressure cleaner:
Another way to get rid of the weeds between the flagstones is to use a high pressure washer. Clean the joints with them and then refill them with a bit of sand to prevent weeds from getting through so quickly in the future.
Tip 3 - Use gas burner / weed burner:
If you own a gas burner, you can use it to burn off the grass and weeds in the joints. You can then easily remove the remains with a broom. Please be very careful in handling the flamethrower (see weed burner) and pay attention to plants in the area, because they could otherwise burn with.
Tip 4 - use biological weed killer:
If the manual removal of grass, moss, dandelion & Co. is too cumbersome and time-consuming, you can also buy a liquid, biological weed killer in stores. For example, we recommend the NEUDORFF Finalsan Concentrate Weed Free Plus (available here). Simply dilute this weed killer with water according to the instructions on the packaging and then place between the stone slabs.
Tip 5 - Use resin-based paving joint mortar:
Weeds sprout again and again. So we gardeners have to live easy. But between the flagstones of the garden paths or the terrace, you can actually get rid of it permanently. You can get a special plaster grout resin-based in the hardware store. Then simply insert this material into the joints between each plate. Since it is an elastic grout, no damage can occur during frost and cracks are not to be feared.
Tip 6 - Laying weed fleece:
If you relocate stone slabs, then you can take precautions so that grass and weeds have no chance at all. At the hardware store, just buy a special weed fleece or a suitable foil and lay it under the boards. Fill the joints later with sand and you will not see the foil anymore. This is a very simple and inexpensive method, because such a slide costs just a few euros.
Do not use salt as a weed killer!
Often you can read the tip that you can also kill weeds with salt. Many of them dissolve salt in hot water and then pour it over the flagstones. However, this is not recommended, because the salt is absolutely harmful to the environment and is flushed by the water into the ground. So stay away from salt as a weed killer!
